Artist Statement

My work from the past several years has been driven from inspiration of other photographers and pinterest and my own imagination. Browsing through Annie Leibovitz portraits has given me inspiration, allowing me to photograph images that I find powerful. For the Jazz unit, I was striving to capture the glitter and glam of Jazz while also incorporating a dark vibe. One of my favorite aspects of photography is taking portraits and capturing expressive images through candid moments that cannot be replicated. I have also taken interest in street photography. I have spoken to individual people and learned a lot about them, making my photographs more meaningful and interesting to me. I am also interested in photographing nature and sea life. When I went to the Oregon Coast I was enthralled by the sea creatures and bright colors hidden in the rocks. I decided to experiment with these photos through a transfer process creating a different format to show the images.
I would say that my best work has been with people and capturing moments. Taking photos of people in their element while also taking the time to hear about their stories has impacted me greatly.

Jazz unit

sea/see

I took these photos on the beach in Sayulita, Mexico where I was trying to capture the homonyms of see and sea. I took photos of people looking out into the sea and photos of sea life and creatures. I made the photos black and white because I personally thought they looked more interesting this way and it enhanced the texture from the sand.
